Gene Pullman (1936-2016)

pullman
Fellow club member Gene Pullman of Boise passed away on October 27th of leukemia at home with family by his side. He and wife Phyllis joined the Idaho Unit in 2014. They were very active members, often sharing rally hosting duties with Phyllis’ sister Myrna Merell and husband John.

Born to Eugene and Opa Pullman in Burley ID. He attended schools in Heyburn. At the age of 8 he stoked kiln fires at the family brickyard at night; at 14 he hauled brick from Burley to Idaho Falls. Anytime he wasn’t working he was hunting or fishing. He joined the US Army Airborne at 17 & returned to Boise to attend BJC. His many jobs included selling vacuums & sewing machines door to door, Boise Police force, framing houses – he completed his brick layer apprenticeship in 1959 & thereafter worked in the masonry industry for 57 yrs to his 78th yr. He owned his own business, Pullman Masonry, later passing it on to his son. A masonry instructor for Job Corp and fire fighter in Redding CA, an apprentice instructor at BSU, Dept of Public Works -held a Class A Building Inspector’s License. His work ethic was unmatched and honored by all who knew him. Providing for his family was first and foremost. Beyond work he fully enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, gardening, working around his home & all the activities our great outdoors offers. He usually had many fishing poles lying around because he never wanted to see someone left behind- especially children. He enjoyed cooking at home, on camping trips & for youth & men’s back country retreats through First Baptist Church. He was most recently a member of River Christian Church.

He is survived by wife, Phyllis of 54 1/2 yrs. Children Susan (Ryan) Tilton, Stephanie (Mark) Smith and Jon (Kelli) Pullman. 12 Grandchildren and 22 Great Grandchildren with one on the way. Sisters Judi Ogawa & Kathe (Dave) Spangenberg & Brother Herm (Jan). Many nieces & nephews.

He could be ornery and rough around the edges at times but had a heart of gold & thought of others before himself. He was a friend to many and he will be deeply missed. Any donations may be made to Mission Aviation Fellowship in support of Rick & Teresa Dickson (www.maf.org).
