Sun Valley Jazz & Music Festival Rally

Sponsored by Region 10
River Run Ski Lodge Parking Lot in Ketchum, Idaho
October 16 – 23, 2017

It’s a National Special Events Rally that you do not want to miss – the Sun Valley Jazz & Music Festival Rally! Over 40 of the best musical groups from around the world take the stages daily in the several venues in the Sun Valley Basin, nestled in the heart of the Sawtooth Mountains during the peak of autumn colors. Sun shining through the golden Aspen leaves makes for spectacular scenery!

Although the Festival begins on Wednesday, October 18th, the rally begins two days earlier, October 16th.  We will have Social Hours on Monday and Tuesday at 4pm and give you time to enjoy the area earlier in the day.

From Seattle, to Orlando, to Mystic, New Orleans, St. Louis, Sacramento and places in between, musicians arrive in Sun Valley ready to make musical memories. There’s Vintage jazz, Big band era, Swing, Zydeco, Blues, Gypsy, Cabaret, Stride and more music played and sung by soloists, duets, small combos and Big Bands. The Midiri Brothers, Yve Evans, Bob Draga, Pieter Meijers, Jason Wanner, Joe Fos, Cornet Chop Suey, Tom Rigney & Flambeau, Gator Nation and the Yale Whiffenpoofs to name a few of the musicians.  Each plays about an hour set and then they rotate to other venues.  It’s possible to stay in one venue and see a majority of the groups.  Or you can follow your favorite group to other sites, all guaranteed to make your Rally stay enjoyable and memorable.

In addition, there are Silent Movies, Dueling Pianos, Marching Band Salute, a traditional Big Band Bash, a Jazz Hymn Sing (don’t forget to bring your umbrellas for “When the Saints Go Marching In”), impromptu jazz sessions, all provided by jazz legends of today.  You can take dance lessons and learn the Lindy Hop, the Charleston and the Fox Trot and even enter the Dance Competition.  There’s Jazz in the Square, a Mardi Gras Party and an Afterglow Dinner.  Priority Seating continues this year with a special Pass – for $100 extra per person, you can be assured of a “front row” seat in the venues.

RV parking (dry) is available beginning on Monday, October 16th.  Parking is adjacent to the magnificent River Run Lodge at the base of Baldy Mountain and overlooks the Big Wood River. RV’s must be self-contained, however free use of luxurious bathroom and shower facilities at the lodge (a 3 minute walk) are available.  Generators are allowed with quiet hours from 10PM to 7AM.  The parking fee for the entire week is only $35. Dump sites are close by.

A Fee of $152pp includes your General Admission badge, a program, use of the River Run accommodations, administrative fee, Happy Hour food on Tuesday and free shuttle bus service. Parking is separate (see the coupon). New this year, for $5 + tax, if you have a Festival Badge, you can see the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra on Wednesday evening from 7pm – 9pm. It is their only performance at the Festival.  (See coupon).

Volunteer opportunities are available at the Festival. Those who have a confirmed position by the Volunteer Coordinator and contribute 12 hours of work, receive their Festival Badge and parking as a “Thank You.” Ask for details if interested. (The Festival organizers look forward to and plan on our help).
